Dinosaurs are now called "Jesus Horses"
Well folks, they've done it again. Let give Kansans a laurel and hearty handshake for bowing to the well funded agenda of the religious right. Their school board has just voted to change science standards to allow Intelligent Design (silkier pseudonym for Creationism) alongside evolution. It's so important to understand here that evolution is (*gasp*) a theory. A SCIENTIFIC theory! It is not a religion. Scientific theories are formulated based on the evidence at hand, a la Occam's Razor. Scientific theories are refined in the light of contradictory evidence. Religion skews newly acquired knowledge to fit within the binds of their sacred texts. I do not believe the Earth is flat. I do not believe man was molded from clay and awakened with divine breath. I do not believe the Earth is 6,000 years old. I do not believe these things because they are without scientific merit.
The Kansas school board was wrong to "redefine the definition of science so that it is no longer limited to the search for natural explanations of phenomena."* Have we returned to the dark ages when we say, "man cannot possibly fathom the mysteries of the world, let's instead just bask in the glory of god's creation"? I have more faith in humanity than that.
